[Tutorial + Template] Fisherman's Vest Card Tutorial

This fisherman's vest card was initially made for a customer who wanted it for Father's Day but I thought I'd share the template for all you fish-loving people out there.  I know this is going to be my dad's birthday card this year because he absolutely loves fishing (it's all he does now as a retired 60-something year old).  So, if you have that fisher(wo)man in your life that you need want to show your love to, this is the perfect card.

Materials:

  • Fishing Vest and Rod Template (PDF or SVG)
  • Cardstock
  • Cutting Mat
  • Scissors
  • Thread
  • Glue
  • Dimensional adhesive
  • Black or brown ink
  • Dauber

Instructions:

For those using the PDF version, please cut along all red lines and score along the black. Also, glue the vest front to the back along the tabs.

Use your ink and dauber to ink along all edges of the vest and pockets.

Glue the pockets onto the front of the vest.

Open the vest and glue down the lining.

Use dimensional adhesive to attach bobbers and bait to the vest pockets.

Cut a piece of tread that is 30 cm (12 inches) long.  Thread one end into the eye of the hook and use a noose knot to secure.  Take the other end and feed it through the holes of the rod starting from the top.  Adjust the thread so the hook sits at your desired length and wrap the remaining thread around the reel.  Dab glue onto the thread to secure into place and trim off the remaining thread.

Glue the fishing rod onto the front of the vest.

Happy Crafting!
